Soils are clay/limestone based with a small part of gravel too, the vineyard sits on the plains in the region. The wine spends 8 months in French oak to soften the tannins and to give additional complexity to the wine. On only a 45 hectare plot of land, the estate dates back to the 17th century. Average age of vines is at least 40 years old. A stunning blend of 70% Merlot, 30% Cabernet Sauvignon. A classic ripe berry flavoured clared, with an attractive nose that really shines with initial red berries but then blossoms into black berry fruit too. On the palate, you do get towards the end some subtle toasted notes. This is proof that you can find very good Bordeaux wines at a value for money level without it being in the hundreds of pounds.
TNWG Food Pairings: This is a Right Bank Bordeaux wine, with the dominant grape varietal being Merlot, so therefore it is a little softer, fruitier and more notes of plum and cherry. So therefore, you are pulling out those earthy, mushroom style ragu’s or truffle dishes even. If it was me it would be something like duck breast – which seared is stunning with this wine.
