Portugal is HUGELY under estimated in terms of wine capabilities and value for money. One of my favourite regions because it showcases such diversity in such a small change in area. This is the Avesso grape varietal and is 100% Avesso.  This wine comes from Carlos Moreira, a grape grower who established his firm in 2006 to really showcase the indigenous grape varietals of the region. With the region able to utilise the maritime breezes, it is of no surprise that this is aromatic and full of stone fruit flavours. However, what is slightly different is that his wines typically are lower in acidity versus the rest of the region of Vinho Verde.

This is a pure, crisp styled Avesso which showcases what can be achieved at high level winemaking in the region. A delight in the glass.

TNWG Food Pairings: The spritely, fun and vibrant wine needs something smooth, silky and most importantly creamy to go with it. Think creamy risottos or even something like scallops if you prefer for fish. If it’s a vegetarian risotto just be careful with the likes of mushroom where umami maybe a little bit too much. I often have this wine with something like a quick air fried roasted chicken – salads or full on roast, it holds true.
